Born the fifth of eight children. Studied philosophy at Rolduc Seminary, Kerkrade, Netherlands, and theology at the seminary at Driebergen-Rijsenburg, Netherlands. Ordained on 15 August 1882 in the archdiocese of Utrecht, Netherlands, and then studied dogmatics and philosophy in Rome, Italy from until assigned at parish priest in Enschede, Netherlands on 30 September 1886. Chaplain to a number of groups devoted to bettering the lot of Catholic working people in his city; he helped found several of them. In January 1893 he began publication of the monthly magazine De Katholieke Werkman (The Catholic Workman), and on 25 May 1895 founded men’s and women‘s groups to work against alcohol abuse. Parish priest in Zutphen, Netherlands. Parish priest in Maarssen, Netherlands. In 1926 he retired from parish work to spend his last years in the convent of the Sisters of Saint Joseph in Amersfoort, Netherlands. Many of his lectures, sermons and writings are available online, and his Cause for Canonization has begun.
